Ramana Maharishi Rangammal Hospital
Athiyandhal, Tiruvannamalai – 606 603
1. INTRODUCTION

RMRH (Ramana Maharishi Rangammal Hospital) is a non-profit-making, charitable hospital. Thanks to the far-sighted vision and support of Madam S.M. Wright (Founder and Managing Director), who is the driving force for the society. Her committed and selfless service has enabled the hospital to establish the services.

Through her vision and great hard work, three big institutions have been established in this socially deprived area. The service was started in a van with four boxes, often under the tamarind trees of villages around Tiruvannamalai.

Community and Outreach Programmes have been undertaken in partnership with the State Government, as Madam believes very strongly that only if Government and NGO's work closely together, can any meaningful work be achieved for the poor, deprived and handicapped.

At present RMRH is a 200-bedded, 24-hours hospital with Ambulance facilities. Three hundred staff work in the organization and approximately seventy two thousand patients are treated every year as outpatients and we have an average of 86 – 90% bed occupancy rate, in addition to the handicapped helped in our schools and community programmes.

The service of our society has been appreciated by all the District collectors and leading citizens of Tiruvannamalai and Madam has also been recognized in her own country by H.M. Queen Elizabeth, who honoured Madam with an M.B.E. (Member of the British Empire) Award in 1999 and O.B.E award in 2008 (Order of the British Empire). The then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu presented the Best Institution award in 2003. Our work is for all people, irrespective of caste, creed and religion and we work with Madam in complete harmony to serve the poor, handicapped and underprivileged.
